1. I think the result of Christ's decision for us is a two-folded one. In one hand, we can read throughout the gospels that He denied himself and literally delivered all of his being to God himself. The self-denial can be clearly seen in next sunday's gospel reading (Mk 1.12-15), in which Christ spends 40 days in fast and prayer being tempted, giving Himself up to God before He could start His ministry. Throughout all his public ministry we can likewise see this pattern of self-giving to God's will.
On the other hand, we can see the aftermath of all Christ's self-giving - the Cross. The ultimate trial of Jesus Christ being the Cross gives a whole new light to humanity. It gives the world the other result of Christ's decision for us - redemption. Our turning into new creatures with renewed minds for the advance of Jesus's good tidings is the second and most important result of Christ's decision for us.
2. The decision for Christ affirms the whole spectrum of living for Him - by understanding what He taught, seeking Him (Mt 6.33, 11.28-30), being like Him (Mt 5.48, I Cor 11.1). The decision for Christ negates our very self and the things of the world (Mk 8.34).
3. Christ provoked a huge change in my life, by first changing my mind ( Rm 12.1-2), consequently changing my world view, made me see wrong stuff about me and my spirituality and, most importantly, imbued me with the desire to follow Him. One of the most difficult aspects for me is the denial of the world, because it takes times until we can do away from everything related to worldly life, even when we seek sanctity and getting closer to God. The rewarding aspect is a fuller and more meaningful life, as well as communion with great friends and counsolers and a great spiritual growth.
4. The strange and unusual thing about Jesus is that His teaching is somehow paradoxical but has a deep ground on practical life and on truth itself (the parables, for example). And He urged his followers to seek HIM and accepted His teaching, unlike other prophets or spiritual teachers that would never point to themselves. So, being face to face to Jesus causes this mixed feeling of facing something indispensable, vital, but with a strange appearance - and radical sometimes (Jn 6.68).
5. The practical implications of the unity and identity and mission in the lives of faithfull followers of Christ is, to put simply, being a missionary for Christ's sake. It involves getting good preparation by discerning one's vocation, intense prayer, self-denial and sanctification and to bring the message of the Gospel to people.
The Gospel Reading for Sunday is an incredible account of the Son of God being guided solely by God's voice. Thanks for the Wordonfire ministries, Fr. Barron. It's been very helpful and it surely pleases God and helps the advancement of His Kingdom.
