Sermon 536 : The Passion of the Christ : Palm Sunday
4/17/2011
Please click the play button above to listen now.
Matthew shows us that, as Jesus resolutely does his Father's will, myriad forms of human dysfunction--betrayal, sloth, stupidity, violence, scapegoating, corruption--break out around him. This is the salvation story: God's compassionate embrace of sinners.

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem … How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!” (Matthew 23:37)It is truly astounding that with this show of all Sin God still kept the offer open. Amazing as always Fr. Barron!

Dear Father Barron,
I attended your illuminating talk last Sunday at the Northern American Collage. I had two questions afterwards; yet, I could not fully articulate them. You asked me to send you an email. So, here are my two questions:
According to the scholastic axiom each one does according to one’s being. If God is a pure act, how can God, create something that is a mix of actuality and potentiality, since potentiality does not enter his being in any kind of shape or form.
Second, the actuality in the world, what resembles most the divine resemblance is the spiritual side. Thus, does not this cause dualistic view of the world?

Excellent the way Fr.Barron relates the way of the cross to our daily lives. Like Jesus said we should not be sorry for Jesus but for our selves, since we still continue to do the same sins that Jesus paid the price for by dying on the cross for us. I really enjoy listening to Fr.Barron's beautiful yet simple sermons which are very Rich with the word of God.
Thanks and God Bless - Marion Hettiarachchi - Ontario, Canada

This homily is excellent... I learn so much every time I hear you preach or listen to your CD's or DVD's. What a gift your are to all of us... Thanks for this great Palm Sunday Homily and for the great lesson you teach us all about the need to grow in holiness. I am praying for you Fr. Barron.. God is using you mightly.. The devil doesn't like that.. That is why I pray so hard for you.. That St. Michael will defend you and that Jesus will cover you in His mantel of protection since you are doing such great things for God. Please continue yourself to stay in prayer daily so God will be able to continue to use you and the devil won't be able to stop you.. We need your gift of preaching.. Thank you again for all you do, and Happy Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Happy Easter to you Fr. Barron.. WE have a son who is studying for the priesthood.. You give me hope for him to one day be able to serve Jesus too like this.... God bless you.

Do you want to have your sins exposed?
Probably not, but if you do then listen to this Classic.
If you do not then steer clear!!
I have never heard anything like this ever before.
Is your life about You or is it about the Lord who loves and guides you?
I am totally convicted by every word in this Sermon for tomorrow Sunday the 17th of April 2011.
I am guilty as charged..
Just like the disciples..
Treachery and Betrayal.... Yes, sadly Yes..
At the climactic moment when He needed His friends...SLOTH... they fell asleep.
They come to get Jesus with swords and clubs..Judas kisses him..An ear is cut off.
Violence... Jesus exclaims..”Those who live by the sword will die by the sword..”
Spiritual Cowardice.
They left Him and fled.. When violence did not work, they left Him and fled..
Liars..The false witnesses.. They do it for themselves to promote themselves..
Our speech is meant for truth. Lying undermines us. We think it helps us we do it for us ourselves. It condemns us before God.
Scapegoating..Peter swears that he does not know HIM
Self destruction...When Judas hangs himself is the greatest sin... It is the sin against the Holy Spirit...
How??? and Why????
Because He refuses to accept forgiveness...
Please accept forgiveness..
As I listened to this I realised that in some way I am really guilty on all scores here.
Make sure you pass this on to your mailing lists and on the Internet and to your friends that you meet...
The Good News....
The power....
Make sure you go to confession this week and spill it all out and get Absolution.
What a Gift!!
Happy Easter!!!

One of the best explanations I've heard on the sin against the Holy Spirit. Thank you for making me see yet another meaning of our Lord's final moments.

I am in the habit of going to Saturday afternoon mass then listening to the current sermon on Saturday evening. It prepares me for going to Sunday morning mass. Today Fr Barron hit all the points experienced in opening my heart to today's Palm Sunday Liturgy. This Saturday afternoon has been an awsome experience. I'm now starting to listen to the older sermons and lectures. Word on Fire hasbeen a tremendous tool in growing my Faith. God bless you.
