Sermon 576 : The Spiritual Drama of Jonah : 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

A divine calling, whether the meaning is revealed in this life or the next, always requires our biblical heroes to do more than they feel they are capable. But all of us must answer, regardless of the call. Jonah provides a very "human" example of how difficult the work may be, and how the result might not be what we anticipate, but that it is always worthwhile and reflects God's will that we enact the purpose that brings our life to its proper fulfillment.

Well put as always. God takes our best and does the rest. I long thought He was making some kind of mistake with His persistent call, being just laity. Soon to find out afterwards that we have means to reach into the far places of every day livingness and persons re: who might never be interested in approaching a priest or religious yet hunger for said witness we can be. One main reason the Catholicism series is so energizing to those of us out there attempting to answer the call daily (yes, often when we'd rather be doing something else). The rewards are endless and surprising! Your words here are reassuring.

When Peter, a simple fisherman was called by God, he had no idea how tremendous God's power was, how virtually endless, his journey would be. He did deny Jesus, however, and betrayed that call, when surrounded by civil authority. God's will for Peter acknowledges our ability to sadden Jesus; but the painful Passion would progress to the Tranfiguration. Will I, will we, recognize the Savior once risen and follow His call? Fr. Barron, your work on Catholicism is Peter's journey still evolving, is it not? God Bless You for your endurance! God Speed You Forward!

Bless you, Father Barron. I don't know what He made me to do, but your sermon reminds me to watch for His signs, and start praying about it again.
