Sermon 616 : Seeing the World Anew : 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Please click the play button above to listen now.
This Sunday's Gospel presents the extraordinary story of Christ's healing Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus is blind. Christ gives him not only the ability to see the world, but to see the world anew through the revelation of his Grace. The Christian way of life is best described as a new way of seeing and it is through this vision, illuminated by the light of Christ, that we are invited to know and see the world as God in Christ intends.

Dear Holy Spirit, please bless Fr. Barron and all those who work at Word on Fire for all the work they do to spread your message. They are your humble servants, please bless their apostolate and their efforts to touch all those who have not heard your Word.

I ask this in the name of our Father's son, Jesus Christ.

This immediately called to mind a verse from the first, or one of the first, readings I read as a lector. It was from Revelation:

“These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress, they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”

I love that.

Dear Father Barron,
During an extremely painful moment & with great sadness I found myself crying out loud. Than out of my mouth comes this= Kyrie Eleison. Not knowing what it was I said it many times. This caused an immense happiness in my heart that I could not possibly explain, even if I tried. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your mission.
May Jesus keep you in the Heart of Our Heavenly Father for now & for ever.

Our dysfunctional world, nations, institutions, families; our dysfunctional intellects, bodies, hearts are reeling with burdens which imprison us. Pride obscures our ability to allow the Lord to heal us: Jerico's walls, the walls around our hearts. I am the blind man. My world is embarrassed if I beg the Lord for pity, especially outloud. Humbling sermon, Fr. Barron.
God Speed!

It is said 'Do not trust your judgement if your imagination is out of focus.'

'If the mind & will are the problem than more mind & more will is not going to be the solution.'
Pope Benedict XVI has rightly cautioned us about the 'Do It Yourself' type of religion.

Reading thoughtfully the Catechism of the Catholic Church(CCC) is helping me open my eyes of faith. There is more peace to be found than we presume to know.

Catechism(CCC)155 - In faith, the human intellect(MIND) and WILL cooperate with divine grace: "Believing is an act of the intellect(MIND) assenting to the divine truth by command of the WILL moved by God through grace."
