In both your Biblical examples, the position at first seemed terrible....Through the eyes of man they were like total defeat.. BUT and there is always a very big BUT when it comes to the Catholic Church... This is no normal Church founded by some man but in Matthew Chapter 16 verse 18.. incidentally one of my favourite verses, we can see very clearly that the architect and builder and maintenance managing director is none other than Jesus Christ Himself.
THIS FACT gives me so much encouragement and these Biblical examples so well extracted by Father Bob just go to confirm that Christ is at the Helm of our ship through foul and fair weather. We have nothing to fear which doesn't mean we do not try to act as with the Catholicism Project but it does mean we are secure and God will and has raised up Samuel,Elijah and then Elisha and now modern day versions of the same in Father Bob and those on EWTN etc to name some.

Ever since I first heard your Podcast highighting the Samuel story, I have had renewed hope in the fate of our Church. Not that it would ever "fold", but that it is going through a 'purification' that many of us will not live to see completed, but will result in a Church that is faithful to Christ.

I always learn from you, Father. Thanks so much for helping me grow in my understanding and love of my Church and the mission God has entrusted to us all. You help remain me focused and assist me in the true feeling of Catholicism's universality.
